If you’re learning Slovene, here’s a helpful hint. If something is terrible, in Slovene it usually has the “feminine” case. For example, words like Smrt (death), kuga (the plague), bolezen (sickness) and pošast (monster) are all feminine. But that’s not all. The following words in Slovene are also feminine: divorce, (ločitev), horror, (groza) accident, (nesreča) wound, (rana) tragedy (tragedija) nightmare (nočna mora), lie, (laž) guilt, (krivda) punishment, (kazen) conspiracy, (zarota)  anger (jeza), loss, (zguba) and tears (solza).
We don’t know if this says something about the language, but if you have to guess, awful words are conjugated as feminine nouns. Katastrofa!
